Ground Theatre is composed of a composite of armoured divisions, transport and Communications.
Ground hugging smoke creates a marvellous image as transport and armoured divisions work their way through it.
Coloured smoke adds to the drama with the infantry attack. It is not advisable to allow this to drift over the audience as the coloured smoke stains very easily.
Simulated bomb hit with a liquid fuel fireball. While these are great visually, they are problematic in a show as they will set the ground on fire for tens of metres around them, and destroy firing leads and require big isolation distances. It is certainly no use having these near the crowd.
A massive liquid fireball, has just burnt out and on the left you can see the smoke from the antiaircraft shell projectors at ground level, and the resulting black antiaircraft bursts above. Notice on the right the fire is just starting in the grass. Prompt attention is needed to deal to this.
Proximate pyrotechnics fitted to the truck, which can be close to the crowd, and burn the paint on the truck, are ideal here to simulate hits by a fighter plane on the truck.
Here we have used artistic license, with the green smoke to represent the truck burning on. After all it could have been carrying a green smokes when it was hit.

Omaka

Re-enactors are able to run close by these explosions with no fear of being splattered by burning fuel, or deafened by loud explosions. But at the same time they provide the audience with a very satisfactory experience.
A white smoke which is not only nontoxic, but very nice to smell is ideal for close use with ground troops. Many smokes are irritating, and for re-enactors, not much fun to perform in.
Smokes are some of the on one hand most convenient ways to set the scene, and on the other hand with the wrong wind, can completely obscure the action .
A World War I Mother tank. This amazing replica needs to be physically touched before you realise it is not steel. One amazing stunt is three men lying down in front of it and the tank drives over them. Naturally they do avoid the tracks.
The fireball can be seen clearly on the back of the tank. These are handmade by us to a very high standard and are very reliable pyrotechnics to use in proximate situations, close to re-enactors.
Completed strafe run and small bomb explosions leave graphic smoke trails.
